Types of Measures

  • Silent Reading Fluency Sentences
    Students are presented with a short sentence, and click a button to indicate having silently read the sentence. Students then answer an item about the sentence they just read. Silent reading fluency is calculated as words read per minute and reported along with item accuracy (5 sentence items).
  • Silent Reading Fluency Maze
    Students are presented with a narrative reading passage of about 100 words that contains some missing words embedded in the text. Students silently read the text to the missing words and click to selects from two response options the word that correctly completes the sentence and the story. Silent reading fluency is calculated as words read per minute and reported along with item accuracy (7 items).
  • Vocabulary Sentences
    Students are presented simultaneously with 13 stand-alone sentences. Each sentence contains one missing grade-level vocabulary word. Students read the sentences up to the missing word and clicks to select from three response options the word that best completes each sentence. Vocabulary accuracy (13 vocabulary items) is calculated and reported.
  • Vocabulary Maze
    Students are presented with a narrative reading passage of about 200 words that contains some missing grade-level vocabulary words embedded in the text. Students silently read the text to the missing words and click to selects from three response options the word that correctly completes the sentence and the story. Vocabulary accuracy (12 vocabulary items) is calculated and reported.
